ABOUT THE FESTIVAL
Tibet has historically fascinated Europeans and North Americans, attracting them to make often dangerous pilgrimmages to the "Roof of the World," which has been idealized as a spiritual and geographical paradise, a Shangri-La.  Recent Hollywood movies have reinforced some of these myths.
The event takes place between Tibetan New Year (February 13-27) and Tibetan Uprising Day (March 10, in commemoration of the 1959 Tibetan uprising against Chinese occupation). Throughout the Festival, the public will be treated to a unique opportunity to experience the richness and diversity of Tibetan culture, while exploring the social, political, and historical context of the Tibetan people in an event-packed week, culminating with two major concerts. Some of the most charismatic and entertaining Tibetan artists from around the world will be participating, arriving from India, Holland, the United States...and Regina!

During the week, the public will be able to enjoy a number of activities, including: music, dance, art and meditation workshops; art and photography exhibits, talks, slide-shows, and small performances. These events will take place at various venues on and around Commercial Drive, including the Britannia Community Centre, the Vancouver Public Library (Main Branch and Britannia), art galleries, cafes, restaurants, and yoga studios. Special events include a book reading and talks by award winning Tibetan writer and activist, Jamyang Norbu, a slide show by photographer Brian Harris, meditation workshops with ex-Buddhist Monk, Tenzin Tsundu, and art exhibit and workshops with Tibetan sacred artist, Kalsang Dawa.

Preceding the concerts at Britannia Auditorium, in the foyer, there will be a Tibetan Market-place of arts, crafts, food and ideas!
